Since 1996, UOTA has offered an endowed scholarship for both an OT and OTA student yearly. This scholarship, worth $1000, requires you are a UOTA member and enrolled in an entry-level OT or OTA program in Utah.
The scholarship application opens around the end of August each year. AOTF selects an essay topic and picks the scholarship winners. The application requires you submit a resumé and obtain reference letters, so plan early. Please see the AOTF website for timelines and applications. https://www.aotf.org/Scholarships. Go to “how to apply” and provide your email.
2021 OTA Student Recipient: Kelsie Buchanan
My name is Kelsie Buchanan and I am an occupational therapy assistant student at Salt Lake Community College. I have wanted to work in the occupational therapy field for 10 years now. I feel fortunate to have found my passion and I am excited to be joining the field! I have worked in pediatrics for many years as a pediatric dental assistant, nanny, and tumbling teacher. I enjoy hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and spending time with my boyfriend and our two dogs outside.
2021 OT Student Recipient: Jessica Bodily
Jessica is in her second year of the Occupational Therapy program at the University of Utah in the class of 2022. She has enjoyed having the opportunity to do research with both Dr. Beth Cardell and Dr. Pollie Price, and the highlight of the program for her so far has been getting to work as a teaching assistant for the first-year anatomy and neuroanatomy courses. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and misses the evergreen trees and rain, but she loves hiking with her husband in the Utah mountains. When she isn't busy with school, she enjoys running, photography, playing the violin, and watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
