Derek Sharp - Secretary

I was born and raised in a small town named Grace, ID amongst the potato fields and the cows. My mom was a special needs preschool teacher which is when I was first exposed to occupational therapy. I first graduated in art education from Utah State University and taught elementary and middle school art for 3 years before going back to get my Masters of Occupational Therapy from the University of Utah. I have since been practicing as a pediatric occupational therapist and love every second of my job. I love working with children, and I love making sure that individuals are able to participate in the daily tasks that are truly important to them. I am a husband and father of four sweet children.  My wife and I met in India while volunteering with a humanitarian group serving in the leprosy colonies. The past few years have been spent learning the ropes of what it takes to be an effective OT and how to apply best practice into my setting. I am honored to serve the members of the UOTA and all occupational therapists in the state of Utah as we work to ensure the continued growth of our profession.
